In order to use EVALARM to its full potential, you can digitally map the location to be protected in EVALARM. This building structure enables not only accurate trigger alerts, but also controlled evacuations and other alerting processes clearly and efficiently.

You can also easily integrate local detectors such as the fire alarm system (FAS) or the burglar alarm system via the building structure.

You can create three structural levels:

  1. Building sectors
  2. Alarm sectors
  3. Room sectors

The levels are subordinate to each previous one and can be set individually and assigned to specific users (or groups).

It shows how to:

  • Create a location structure
  • Create the building sector grid position on the fire department plan
  • Connect people with the building structure

Creating a building structure

Since you have three possible levels, it is important to plan the building structure in advance. The building structure can vary depending on the size of the location and the function of the alert.

The building structure can be found in the Web console under the Location Management category.

It is divided into buildings, alarm and room sectors.

If you already have a location with an identical building structure, you can import it.

However, if you are importing building structures, you must reset the grid position, connected persons, and processes.

However, you can also create new sectors in the administration of the building structure.

As the hierarchy of the building structure is organized vertically, you should start setting up with the largest, main area and create a new building sector.

This offers the advantage that all subordinate sectors are automatically involved in the case of an alert for the superordinate building structure – eg. an evacuation.

This can be, for example, a location area, a building or only part of a building. The structure is freely definable.

You must define the name, abbreviation, short key, description and possibly the grid position of the building sector.

In addition you have the possibility to connect the building sector to one or more alarm type/s. As a result you can select this buliding sector when creating an alarm. This connecting can also be done in setting up alarm types.

Next, you can create the building sectors subordinated alarm sectors. You will also find these in the building structure.

These are usually a smaller subunit of the building sector, such as a building part or area, a floor or a room.

In contrast to the building sector, you can select the floor and the superordinate building sector for alarm sectors.

You can create room sectors in the same way as alert sectors, only they will be assigned to them instead of to building sectors.

Mark the building sectors by grid position on the fire department plan

If you have a digital map of the fire department overview plan, you should first create these and divide them into a grid with a group of rows and columns.

Then you can later assign the building sectors to a specific grid position on the FD general plan which facilitates the position of the alert on the plan in the event of an alarm.

In accordance with the grid group, you can now make the assignment and choose one or more rows and columns for the building sectors.

You can select the grid position directly when creating a new building sector, or you can edit existing ones.

Connect people and workflows to sectors

In order for you to evacuate sectors in your location and filter out missing persons, you should connect building, alarm and room sectors with the appropriate persons.

These people can be EVALARM users or employees and the allocation is carried out at all stages in the same manner.

The building evacuation takes place following the hierarchical structure of the building. If a higher-level sector is evacuated, this also applies to all subordinate sectors that are connected.

To connect a person with a sector, select a sector in the respective index, click view, select the category, connected persons and edit this.

Now you can add the connected persons, which are now directly alerted during an evacuation alarm and appear in the evacuation list.

If the EVALARM Location is connected to a technical interface, e.g. a building technology or a fire alarm system, the connection can be made under “Alarm Systems”. It depends on the individual configuration how the connection looks like.
